Title:Weak hyperbolicity of cube complexes and quasi-arboreal groups
No PDF available, click to view other formatsAbstract:We examine a graph $\Gamma$ encoding the intersection of hyperplane carriers in a CAT(0) cube complex $\widetilde X$. The main result is that $\Gamma$ is quasi-isometric to a tree. This implies that a group $G$ acting properly and cocompactly on $\widetilde X$ is weakly hyperbolic relative to the hyperplane stabilizers. Another application affirms Sageev's finite hyperplane coloring conjecture for uniformly locally finite CAT(0) cube complexes, generalizing Sageev's results in the $\delta$-hyperbolic case. Examining $\Gamma$ also yields Wright's theorem that the asymptotic dimension of $\widetilde X$ is bounded above by its dimension and implies that certain groups acting on CAT(0) cube complexes have finite asymptotic dimension. Finally, a cubical version of the flat plane theorem is stated in terms of complete bipartite subgraphs of $\Gamma$.
