Title:Linear Scaling Real Time TDDFT in the CONQUEST Code
View PDFAbstract:The real time formulation of Time Dependent Density Functional Theory (RT-TDDFT) is implemented in the linear scaling density functional theory code CONQEST. Proceeding through the propagation of the density matrix, as opposed to the Kohn-Sham orbitals, it is possible to reduced the computational workload. Imposing a cut-off on the density matrix the effort can be made to scale linearly with the size of the system under study. Propagation of the reduced density matrix in this manner provides direct access to the optical response of very large systems, which would be otherwise impractical to obtain using the standard formulations of TDDFT. We discuss our implementation and present several benchmark tests illustrating the validity of the method, and the factors affecting its accuracy. Finally we illustrate the effect of density matrix truncation on the optical response, and illustrate that computational load scales linearly with the system size.
